Senior Scientific Advisor secondment opportunity (now closed)
23rd September 2010
Part time (up to three days a week) secondment opportunity for Senior Scientific Advisor, NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies Coordinating Centre (NETSCC), Public Health Research Programme, based at the University of Southampton.
The NIHR Public Health Research programme (www.phr.nihr.ac.uk) was set up to evaluate public health interventions. It provides new knowledge on the benefits, costs, acceptability and wider impacts of non-NHS interventions intended to improve the health of the public and reduce inequalities in health.
The post of Senior Scientific Advisor is an opportunity to help develop the programme by providing scientific input at a senior level to support the commissioning of a balanced portfolio of research.
This secondment is a valuable opportunity for academic public health experts and their institutions to gain insight into and direct experience of NIHR research commissioning, and to help shape the future research agenda of the PHR programme.
The successful applicant will have significant experience of undertaking research funded by NIHR, government departments, research councils or other funders; knowledge of public health research, including evaluation of natural experiments and cluster randomised trials; and a demonstrable commitment to the use of evidence in decision-making. An understanding of current research within public health is essential.
This post is based at the University of Southampton and offered as a secondment for three days a week, with a minimum requirement for one day a week to be in Southampton plus attendance at Board meetings which are usually held in London.
