Phil Taverner, Assistant Director
Phil trained as a social worker and has more than 30 years experience of child care social work as a practitioner, trainer and manager. This experience spans the UK and New Zealand and includes work in local government, the voluntary sector and education. During the 1990s he also provided consultancy services to several European countries and set up a new family support charity in the UK. In 2008 he made a positive career change to take up his current position as Assistant Director of the NIHR Public Health Research programme. |

Sheila Turner, Senior Research Fellow
Sheila initially trained in microbiology and has experience of primary research and co-ordinating clinical trials. Having worked for the HTA programme for 3 years she joined the PHR programme in January 2009 as Senior Research Fellow. |

Rebecca Moran, Research Fellow
Rebecca joined the team in September 2009, before this she worked with a team lobbying Parliament on the Stop the Traffik campaign and as a Teaching Fellow at Lancaster University in Politics and International Relations. Her research doctorate explored the politics of HIV/AIDS and the disjuncture between international AIDS policy and local-level realities in Ghana. Rebecca has also conducted research in the Gambia and on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. |

Claire Kidgell, Senior Programme Manager
Claire joined the PHR programme in May 2010 as a Senior Programme Manager. Previously, she worked for Cardiff University School of Medicine as a Strategic Research Co-ordinator and at the Wellcome Trust as a Science Portfolio Advisor. Claire graduated from the University of Bath and went on to complete an MSc at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Following two-years working at Microscience Ltd, a biotechnology company, she completed a PhD at Imperial College London and conducted her postdoctoral research at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego. |

Kate Rodger, Programme Manager
Kate Rodger joined the PHR programme in October 2008 following almost a year working for the HTA Clinical Evaluation and Trials team. Currently her main areas of focus are the planning and delivery of the Research Funding Board, Public Involvement in research and development of a project monitoring process for the programme |

Gemma House, Programme Manager
Gemma studied Social Sciences at the University of Bath and graduated in 2005. She joined the PHR programme in October 2008 and has focused on the development of the Programme Advisory Board and the programme's marketing and communications. Previously Gemma worked for the University of Southampton's International Office recruiting students. |

Kristy Cable, Assistant Programme Manager
Kristy joined the Public Health Research programme in February as an Administrator. Her role involves supporting the PHR team in various administrative tasks with a strong focus on refereeing and organising Research Funding Board meetings. Kristy previously worked for Servoca Training Solutions as a Training Support Officer; prior to that she was a Primary School Teacher, teaching Key Stage 2. |

Kerstin Goodall, Administrator
Kerstin joined the Public Health Research programme in February as an Administrator. Her role focuses on the organisation of internal meetings, diary management and conference bookings. Kerstin also assists with the organisation of Programme Advisory Board meetings and is involved in the maintainance of our website and newsletter. She previously worked as PA for a national charity and has spent several years working in Germany for an international company in the medical sector. |
